Keep feeling groggy today throughout all the lectures, I'm really feeling very sleepy liao... Need to try and struggle not to fall asleep... Sigh... Gotta get used to studying all over again after my one month of holidays.
Met up with Joel and his family for dinner at an Indonesian restaurant called Sparrow's after school today. Ok, for those of you who don't know, Sparrow's is this Indonesian restaurant in Northbridge with very good food and a very funny owner. Funny as in really tickling, laugh till your guts spill out sort of funny, though he's funny by character and might not really be trying to be funny. There are several standing jokes about him; firstly, he tends to answer the phone with his trademark, "Hello, Sparrow speaking!!!". We used to joke that we would call and pull a prank on him by saying in response," Hello Sparrow? This is Falcon/Eagle/Motherbird/Any feathered friend, the eggs are in the nest. I repeat, the eggs are in the nest." We will then hang up and leave him to fathom the meaning of whatever higher power has just bestowed on his little sparrow self.
Secondly, he looks like an old church member Guo Chao Uncle who now resides in Perth, and on top of the resemblance, they behave the same in spirit and manner. There are many more jokes but those are the two we shall highlight. Pastor Chng also noted the resemblance and just happened to joke to the Sparrow and asked him if he has any brother. He immediately responded, " Oh, Lee Guo Chao is it? No lar he's not my twin brother!", much to our immense surprise. Imagine that the world is so small that he actually even knows of Guo Chao Uncle, and to our knowledge Guo Chao Uncle does not even patronise his restaurant. It turns out that the Sparrow attended the same church once or twice and people commented on the resemblance before. We were wondering if they might even be long lost brothers... Anyway his nickname, i.e., Sparrow actually has a biblical meaning but we shall not go into that for now.
Pastor Chng tried to tease him and asked him how he usually answers the phone. He asked if we were referring to the "Sparrow speaking!!!" bit! Gosh, he knows all the jokes about him already!!! The rest of the dinner was very entertaining and he had us in stitches most of the time. Just ask me and Joel anytime when you see us. This is a dinner we will never forget. And the food is very very good too. Yum yum...
