Went to Joel's student accomodation to spend the weekend on Saturday afternoon, the journey was pretty all right, only half an hour by bus, so I guess I can probably visit him more. That will have to wait until after mid sems though. (Ok Joel I can hear your sighs of relief)
Joel and his friends had made plans to go celebrate their friends' birthday. There were 2 birthday gals, Joey and Zen, and the plan was to go celebrate at Fremantle eating the famous fish and chips. Anyway I arrived at Joel's place at around 3 plus, and did a bit of studying there before Joel's friends started arriving. Raine and Jo arrived first with the birthday gals' presents and wrapping stuff to wrap the prezzies with, as well as chilli sauce and tartar (spelled "tartare" here) sauce to bring over later, as most Australia restaurants charges for sauces. (30 cents a packet, might as well go and rob bank or open NKF right?)
Halfway through while the gals were wrapping the prezzies, Joey showed up at Joel's window and we had to distract her while Joel hid the presents behind his back. Anyway Joey looks a lot like Gigi Leung. I told Joel about it and he agreed with me. I think it is her eyes and face shape, as well as her height. She's like about 173 cm, quite a respectable height for a gal. So we left Joel's place at around 5.30 and met the rest of the people at the bus stop to take the bus to Fremantle.
On arriving there, Joel led us on a little wild goose chase; he was not too familiar with the area, having only been there once before and the other time someone was driving, but we finally made our way there after asking around for directions a couple of times. I have only been there once myself and was equally unfamiliar with the place, so I wasn't much help.
Cicerello's (sp?) absolutely rocks!!! As usual, we ordered the famous fish and chips and it was fantastic! After the meal, I surprised the 2 birthday gals with balloon flowers that I made in the loo (oops) and performed a bit of magic tricks to entertain the group. It was quite fun and we went to Hungry Jack's for ice cream (30 cents each!) before catching the bus back to Murdoch Uni. Oh and I did a bus licence plate prediction trick before the bus came. I think Joel's friend Meisi was very impressed, though the excitement died down pretty fast as well.
Back in Joel's place a few of us chatted till late, about 12 plus before turning in. I think we were pretty noisy, I just hope Joel's neighbours weren't too disturbed. :P
Sunday morning:
Joel and me woke up and prepared to go to his church at Wilhetton. His church was pretty all right, the sermon and praise and worship was good, though the order was very different from the ones that I have become accustomed to, so I was a little disoriented. However, it is the spirit in which you are doing things that is important, not the order so it's all right.
Went for lunch with his church mates after that at KFC. Let me now make some interesting observations about the similarities I found between his church and my church in Singapore.
1) The gals are equally noisy. I felt that I was just looking at Jingyi, Huiyu, Sarah, Deborah and all the rest of the gals, only they have different faces and maybe voices, though it's hard to tell at that decibel.
2) The after-service lunch decisions were equally hard to make. Hanging around for the entire youth community to fall in and then decide where to eat while some youths starts wandering away and then collecting the strayers and deserters and then deciding where to eat etc etc. The whole thing runs in extremely volatile cycles. What fun...
3) The lingo is equally special. The way they talk is identical to the lingo used in YM! For example, Jingyi's "Rah!" became "Growl" here. One gal called Sara-ann just reminded me of Deborah so much, though they don't look the same. Haha..
I could go on forever, but this is getting to be a pretty long blog already, so just take my word for it that there were vast similarities between the churches' youth community across the sea. Perhaps it's a youth thing.
After lunch I met up with my sis and her friends, who wanted to go to Fremantle to eat the fish and chips and do some shopping. We visited the Fremantle market as well as some shops before going for dinner. There was one shop that was quite unique, with salesgirls dressed up as fairies, and selling all sorts of fairy stuff. The sort of shop that you expect to find Harry Porter shopping in, though the merchandise is more like dragon soft toys and the like. Fremantle market was quite interesting as well.
We had dinner at Kaili's, the fish and chips here is cheaper and nicer, though the atmosphere is not as nice as Cicerello's. Anyway I had eaten too much these 2 days, plus it's raining now, preventing me from going for my jog, which is why I am blogging now anyway. Need to lose weight!!!
